No fewer than ten illegal developments were recently sanctioned and sealed by the Ogun State Government for contravening building regulations of the state.
The exercise, carried out by the State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, is geared towards ensuring a planned and orderly State, conducive for corporate and individual prosperity.
The affected structures which include filling stations, hotels, as well as commercial and residential buildings are situated in Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode, Ilese Ijebu axis of the State.
The sanctions were handed down during an enforcement exercise conducted by the Central Monitoring Unit Taskforce, domiciled in the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority.
The taskforce is saddled with the responsibility of enforcing conformity with planning permits, as well as ensuring that structures in the State have the necessary building permits before or during development.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the exercise, the Acting General Manager of the Authority, TPL. Idowu James, said the sanctioned structures contravened building regulations of the State, ranging from not obtaining permits, constructing additional structures without seeking additional approvals, ignoring repeated notices served to ascertain the legality of their constructions.
According to him, “if notices from the Ministry are placed on any structure, or if any structure is marked, the owners of the structure are expected to approach any of the 22 Zonal Town Planning Offices across the State, or the Ministry’s headquarters in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, to regularise their documents, failure to do so will definitely attract sanction’’.
TPL. James added that breaking the seals on any structure that had been served without the knowledge of the Authority constituted a criminal offence that was punishable by law, advising the owners of the sealed structures to come forward for regularisation.
He affirmed that the Authority would continue to operate in line with the vision of the Ministry, to achieve a planned and orderly State, conducive for corporate and individual prosperity.
The Acting GM however called on residents who are yet to obtain necessary permits or regularize their building documents to ensure a functional environment that the present administration desires for the people.
