Workers New Minimum Wage to be announced next week – TUC

Baring any last minute change of plans, President Bola Tinubu is set announce a new minimum wage for workers in the country.
This becomes necessary due to the effect of fuel subsidy removal by the government and it’s attendant effects on the the workers and the general populace.
President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Festus Osifo, disclosed this while speaking on the outcome of the union’s Tuesday meeting with the federal government on the fuel subsidy removal.
According to him, “Minister of labour told us that he had an audience with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the minister of finance and had reviewed the issue of wage award. But the president asked them to fine-tune the issues before he makes the announcement,”
“Minister told us all these issues would be streamlined but because the president has travelled we should give him an extra two weeks. We said no; we don’t have an extra two weeks to give. After more discussions, he said the president would make proper announcement next week.”
Besides the minimum wage, the TUC has engaged with the federal government concerning the distribution of palliatives to states.
Comrade Osifo also stressed the commitment of the union to monitor the fair and effective allocation of these relief measures, noting their desire to scrutinize the implementation template. Additionally, issues related to taxation and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) were raised during the discussions.
