10th Senate: Oyewunmi Clears Air On Emergence As Deputy Minority Leader

Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Olalere Oyewumi has cleared the Air on his emergence as the deputy minority Leader of the Tenth Senate, saying his party, PDP is in full support.
Senator Oyewunmi representing Osun West senatorial district at the National Assembly, made this assertion during an interactive session with journalists at the national assembly complex.
He further stressed that there was no condemnation from his party regarding his emergence as the Senate Deputy Minority leader.
He said, “I can tell you categorically that our great party the PDP are in full support of my emergence as the minority leader.
“The house has a rule, the Senate also has a rule that guide his operations, when you look at section 27 of the house, he says Senate shall appoint his principal officers from among the members, we made it very official, the minority caucus 36 out of the 50 appended their signatures.
“What you saw as a reaction or speculations going on if there’s any is that some of our senators, time didn’t permit us to visit everybody for their support because they don’t know that some of our members have signed, so it was practically impossible to visit all the Senators for their signatures.”
The deputy minority leader, while reacting to allegation that the list that paved way for his emergence was influenced by former governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, he noted that the supposed list was just a speculation, adding that the leadership of his party were fully involved in the process, so also the Labour Party lawmakers were carried along.
He assured of effective discharge of his responsibilities as the leader of the opposition lawmakers.
“I must tell you that we the minority will keep ruling party in check, we’ll monitor them to their toes to make sure that Nigerians get the best in this 10th assembly.
“When they are doing well we do it together, we’re not there to play politics, we’re here for Nigerians, we must join hands with the ruling party to make Nigeria great, ” senator Oyewunmi noted.
