How Wale Edun transformed Lagos Economy, making it the 5th Largest in Africa, Biggest in Nigeria – Ogun Central Senator, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu

The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District of Ogun State, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has described the appointment of a financial and banking expert and a two-term Commissioner For Finance in Lagos State, Mr. Wale Edun, as a Ministerial Nominee for Ogun State in the Federal Executive Council, as a perfect piece of the jigsaw puzzle in terms of revamping the Nation’s economy.

Salisu, stated this at the senate chamber when Wale Edun appeared before the Senate for screening and confirmation as Minister, following his nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Lending his voice in support of the economist for the ministerial position, the Ogun Central Senator, noted that Wale Edun’s expertise and experience in economic transformation, have been exemplary, adding that his ingenuity and professionalism contributed to the transformation of the economy of Lagos State from a paltry sum of N600m in internally generated revenue in 1999 to billions of Naira during the administration of President Bola Tinubu as governor of the State.

According to Salisu, “If you are looking for the man who made that happen, you have the privilege of seeing him here today; he is Wale Edun. This man deployed technology to connect all 38 tax stations in Lagos State, ensuring that the revenues of Lagos were being monitored as they happened.

“He blocked all the leakages, and he streamlined the procurement process, ensuring that the resources of Lagos were utilized.

The Senator further explained that Wale Edun, during his service as Finance Commissioner in Lagos State, used his ingenuity to keep the state afloat among the comity of states, particularly when the funds meant for the State were seized by the federal government.

Salisu, called on the ministerial nominee to replicate the same ingenuity in handling Nigeria’s economy when he is confirmed as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He said “At a point in our history like now, we require a man like Wale Edun”, describing him as a good product of Ogun Central Senatorial District of Ogun State who is capable of translating the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu to prosperity for the country and enhancement of welfare, wellbeing, and wellness of the masses”.
