Avoid Preaching Capable Of Causing Political Crisis, Ogun League Of Imams, Alfas Warn Religious Leaders

ABEOKUTA – The League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun state has warned religious leaders in the country, especially Ogun state to desist from preaching that is capable of inciting violence and truncating the peaceful coexistence of the gateway state.

The League in a communique issued by the Directorate of Leadership and Good Governance at the end of a Three-Day interactive session with 2023 governorship candidates in the state, urged religious leaders to use their congregation to preach love and peaceful coexistence amongst the people.

The Islamic group in a communique jointly by the Chairman, Qasim Sanusi, and the Secretary, Tajudeen Uthman urged politicians to eschew violence and stop inciting utterances in their campaigns.

The Muslim community, therefore, pledged its readiness to be trustworthy and partner with whoever emerges as the governor with a view of taking Ogun state to the enviable height among the comity of States in Nigeria.

The Directorate implored the people of Ogun State to use the opportunity of the window provided to collect their Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) in preparation to vote for the best candidate.

The group reminded the electorate that it is only when their civic responsibilities are fulfilled that trusted individuals who can oil the wheel of progress in the state would emerge.

“Religious leaders were urged to use the opportunity of their congregation to preach love and peaceful coexistence amongst the people. They should avoid preaching that is capable of compromising the peaceful coexistence so enjoyed in the state. Politicians were also urged to be “Omoluabi” in their politicking.

“They should eschew violence and inciting utterances in their campaigns.

“The Directorate implored the people of Ogun State to use the opportunity of the window provided to collect their Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) in preparation to vote for the best candidate since they are now better enlightened.

“They are equally reminded that it is only when their civic responsibilities are fulfilled that trusted individuals who can oil the wheel of progress in the state would emerge. The progress and development of Ogun State is a must do task for all.

“The Muslim community in return pledged her readiness to be trustworthy and reliably partner with whoever emerges as the governor with a view to taking the state to enviable height among the comity of states in the country.

“The leadership of the Muslim Ummah prayed for all the candidates who attended the 3-day event, Ogun state and Nigeria at large.”
