They are lords at the borders – fighting against smuggling and illegal immigration into Nigeria.
And on Wednesday, one intercepted the other not at the border, but on a football pitch.
The football team of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) humiliated the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) counterpart at the ongoing 2021 Security and Safety Cup organised by the Sports Writers association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State chapter.
The two teams clashed at the quarter finals stage on Wednesday at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, with the Customs team beating Immigration 5 goals to zero.
All the five goals were scored in the first half of the match, and all efforts to undo the damage ended futile.
TheAffairs reports that the Customs had recently reintroduced football team as part of moves to tame smuggling in the border areas of Ogun State.
In other quarter finals, the defending champions – Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) defeated VGN 4-3 on penalty shootouts , TRACE knocked out So Safe corps one nil, while Police pipped the Amotekun team 2 – 1.
For the semi-finals coming up on Sunday, NSCDC will face will face the Nigeria Police team, while the Customs will slug it out with TRACE.
The NSCDC Coach, Soleye Adekunle said “It was not an easy match. God gave us victory. And as defending champion, our aim is to defend the trophy at the end of the tournament.”
