A popular comedian, Abegunde Olamilekan Smile, better known as Dr Smile, on Sunday night shocked millions of his fans as he drew the curtain of his show in Abeokuta, Ogun State, after conclusion of its seventh edition.
The yearly show “Dr Smile Unusual” always features upcoming and established comedians, musicians and other entertainers. This year”s edition was tagged “Dr Smile Unusual 7 – Final Editional – Untold Story.”
But what started like a joke during this year’s show at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Marquee event centre, Dr Smile told his audience that “this will be my last show in Abeokuta.”

Many were shocked, yet they felt Dr Smile was doing his thing – comedy.
“I swear to God, this is my last show in Abeokuta. I’m done. Ali Baba will blow the whistle for the last show in Abeokuta tonight and blow it again when I start my show in Lagos,” he said, bluntly.
The Ondo born entertainer lamented that it has been unprofitable for him running a show in Abeokuta for the past seven years, saying he has nothing to show for it.
He also expressed concern over little or no support for the show, which makes him organise it with “my personal money.”

“I spent more money on this show and at the end of the day I will make like N120,000 gain. For instance, this hall costs N1.2million…I want to enjoy my money.
“I am not doing a show again in Abeokuta. This is the last and the final,” he said.
He said it was surprising that when he held one of his shows in Ekiti State in 2015, he made more money than what he used to make in Abeokuta.

Some of the high-profile fans at the event prevailed on him, but he insisted that he could only make a U-turn if he gets sponsorship, saying “I won’t do a show with my money again in Abeokuta.”
The Affairs reports that the seventh edition of “Dr Smile Unusual” attracted some of the biggest comedians in the country including Ali Baba, Gbenga Adeyinka, Kenny Blaq, Destalker, Omo Baba, Owena Gee and Lepacious.

Skit makers like Woli Agba and his team, Remote and other upcoming comedians performed at the show.
Jesse King of Buga was also one of the artistes who performed at the comedy show.

Dr Smile, however, honoured Ali Baba, Gbenga Adeyinka, Owena Gee, Omo Baba, Lepacious and other top personalities who said have been the biggest supporters and promoters of his show. He also told the story of how he started from as a band boy and ended up in comedy as a trade.

Kenny Blaq jokingly warned Dr Smile against relocating his show to Lagos, saying “there is no hall of N1.2m in Lagos. The highest you get with it na ushers.”
