The National Chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure has inaugurated a 24 man Caretaker State Working Committee of the party in Ogun State.
The interim SWC headed by Ashade Michael Oluseyi as the chairman will be piloting the affairs of the party ahead of its incoming State Congress.
Abure flanked by other leaders of LP inaugurated the party executive members on Thursday at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Iwe Iroyin, Abeokuta.
In his remarks, the LP National Chairman urged the new excos to contribute to the development of the party in the state, South West and at the National level.
Abure told Ogun LP members to lead ongoing move by the party to takeover the country’s affairs in 2023.
The legal practitioner who noted that there “is leadership deficit in Nigeria”, described LP as the “best party to provide an alternative.”
According to him, Nigeria, today is more divided and worse than under previous administrations, just as he accused President Muhammadu Buhari government of failing to fulfill the change its promised Nigerians.
Abure identified insecurity, kidnapping, mass killings and corruption as some of the challenges.
“The country is more divided than it was. Today, we emphasised what divides us than what unites us. We are more divided more than ever before,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Oluseyi vowed to ensure LP plays its role as a major opposition party in the state.
He also expressed confidence that LP will contest for all seats in 2023 elections and come out “victorious.”
Oluseyi thanked the leadership of the party and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.
